Bucking the trend

WE HAVE become used to village shops closing and thereby inconveniencing hungry boaters. Good news! The last remaining shop in Stoke Golding on the Ashby Canal has reopened, writes Ian Reid.

Its closure, without warning last May, caught out both locals and vistors alike, especially the latter.

Easy to find

Located in the centre of the village next to the Post Office, between the Three Horseshoes and the George and Dragon, it's not difficult to find.

What does it say about Stoke Golding that we still have three pubs, a club, a shop, a Post Office and moorings? (...and don't forget the Dog and Hedgehog with its excellent restaurant, up the road in Dadlington.)
