Carbon Monoxide killed boaters

THE Boat Safety Scheme (BSS) people are asking boaters to increase their vigilance and stay aware of the risks of Carbon Monoxide (CO) poisoning, after more deaths.

It was suspected carbon monoxide poisoning that killed a boater and his dog on a narrowboat on the Oxford Canal in January, with initial findings by the MAIB leading it to also suspect that two deaths, also in January, on a small fishing boat in Whitby were linked to the use of a gas cooker as a space heater.

Simple steps

There are a few simple steps boaters can take to prevent CO and of course they should fit an alarm to warn themselves if CO still occurs.
