THE CLOSURE OF Oxclose Lock on the Ripon Canal means there is no access to Ripon Marina.

It being situated at the dead end, Keith Gudgin reports.

No access

The problem is Oxclose Lock 3 is the only way boats can either get in or out of the marina.

The marina has been completely cut-off from the system nine times since 2022, with the current closure now making it ten.

This latest stoppage look likes being a rather long one as the lock is loosing water with work being undertaken to identify and assess areas of water loss through the lock chamber.

Microgravity surveys have been undertaken, with borehole sampling required as the next stage of the investigation to determine ground conditions and identify any voids that are surrounding the lock chamber.

Specialist contractor

A specialist contractor is required for this work, with the trust waiting for confirmation of dates for the borehole investigations.

It is expected that these will be accomplished in November, with the lock remaining closed.

After this work should take place to rectify any fault that is discovered.
