Help for John at Anderton

Published: Sunday, 05 May 2013

I AM at Anderton at the moment and John Wonfor has been here on his home-made raft collecting for the Macmillan nurses, writes Keith Gudgin.

Graham, my friend, and I asked John if he was going down the lift onto the Weaver? He said he didn't even know it was there.

I took him into the booking office to see if they would let him go down and then bring him back up for a photo shoot.

No problem

Jason Watts, the Duty Manager came out and had a look at John's vessel and said it would be no problem.

He then arranged for John to travel down and then back up the lift on his own for safety, and also looked after him during his time in the lift. The photo is Jason and John, with John's boat at the bottom of the lift.

Considerable amount

Jason then took John's bucket around the lift area and collected a considerable amount for John's charity.

I would like to thank Jason and all his staff at the Anderton Boat Lift for their help and enthusiasm in helping John have a unique experience and furthering the cause of both charities by their very kind act.

John is now on his way around the Shroppie towards Llangollen. Give him a wave, and a few bob, if you see him on his travels.
