THE WATERSIDE BRIDGE over the Trent at Nottingham was officially opened this week.
At a cost of £18m the 87m (278ft) bridge connects the city to Lady Bay, Janet Friend reports.
It was built fairly locally in Hucknall and then lifted into place last November.
Pedestrians and cyclists only
The bridge however is for pedestrians and cyclists only, with the towpath connecting the bridge being widened and surfaced.
It is the first new river crossing built over the river in Nottingham since 1958, when Clifton Bridge was built.
People gathered for the opening ceremony including school children from the two schools at each side of the bridge.
