THERE IS A DISTINCT POSSIBILITY of the Lancaster Canal closing completely through lack of water.

Canal & River Trust closed part of the waterway from Bridge 11 to Bridge 177 on the 9th July, Keith Gudgin reported.
And though over this week the trust has been completing repairs to known leaks and undertaking further investigations of the canal around Tewitfield, where it believed that water is being lost, water is still being lost, that is compounded by the persistent dry weather meaning that many inflows to the canal have dried up.
Despite these efforts the trust has not yet been able increase water levels, even though efforts are being made for emergency abstraction consent, alongside the continued efforts for repairs.
Need to close in near future
This has left the trust with no alternative but to encourage boaters to prepare for the possibility that the canal may need to close in the relative near future.
This will include *Emptying waste tanks. *Filling up water and fuel tanks. *Stocking up on essential supplies. *Considering relocating your boat to areas with services. *Or returning to your moorings.
