Huddersfield Broad Canal
On the Huddersfield Broad Colne Bridge Lock 2 has broken mechanism, with the balance beam having dropped.
Part of the mechanism of a paddle has broken off, causing the balance beam to drop, it no longer being safe to operate the lock, so it is closed.
A specialist contractor is required to manufacture a replacement piece and should be on site to measure up in the coming days, but a crane boat may be required to fit it.
The closure will remain in place until the lock can be safely operated, once this new part has been fitted.
Regents Canal
The closure of the regents Canal is caused by a broken balance beam on Mile End Lock 9.
With navigation being closed through the lock until a repair can be completed.
Leeds & Liverpool Canal
There is a power outage that is preventing Warehouse Swing Bridge 187 from being operated.
The trust has been advised by National Grid that there is currently a power outage in the Kildwick area that is expected to continue into the night, with the bridge unable to be operated by boaters.
Huddersfield Broad Canal
A second stoppage on the Huddersfield Broad Canal, this at Lock 1.
We are told that operatives have attended the lock on the Huddersfield Broad and found that the gear mechanism has broken and the head paddle is stuck in the up position.
It will remain out of use until a repair can be effected.
Leicester Section
Watford Lock Flight on the Leicester Section of the Grand Union Canal is currently closed.
Yet again it is a paddle problem closing the flight from Lock 1 to Lock 7.
A broken paddle on Lock 3 means that the lock is inoperable, with the earliest the repair can be completed being Monday.
Paddle problems
Three of the stoppages, with two on the Huddersfield Broad Canal, are with paddle problems stopping navigation. Perhaps a little prior maintenance in needed....
