A MASSIVE LENGTH OF THE Leicester Section is to be locked off in four days time.

Closed to navigation
The Leicester Section from Kibworth Top Lock 18 to Kings Lock 38 (pictured) will be locked, and therefore closed to navigation on Monday 20th July, with Canal & River Trust telling:
Following a further review, the decision has been made to lock all locks between Kings Lock and Kibworth Lock from 3pm on Monday 27 July.
Navigation between these locks will not be possible, as we cannot guarantee safe water levels for passage. Boaters are strongly encouraged to leave this section before the closure comes into effect, while navigation is still possible.
Encouraged to move off
The trust is encouraging all boaters to move off this stretch while navigation is still possible, however movement in between the locks will still be available should water allow it.
The situation is being continually monitored and reviewed, we are told, and should water levels recover to safe levels, it may revert back to restricted opening times.
Following the closure of the Lancaster Canal it would seem that the close-down of the waterways has started, and unless we get a massive amount of rainfall fairly soon other navigations will certainly follow.
