THE LACK OF WATER and other stoppages will have closed 11 navigations in the near future.
Making it most difficult for boaters and their boating holidays, Keith Gudgin Reports.
Of the stoppages, five have been though lack of water with the continued dry spell hitting the navigations hard at the start of the school holidays
The others are for various reasons.
Those navigations suffering low water levels and closing the waterways:
Northampton Arm of the Grand Union
To help conserve water and maintain safe navigation, the trust will be closing the Northampton Arm to passage from 3pm on Monday 27th July.
To ensure this Lock 1 and Lock 12 will be locked to prevent access to the flight.
Grand Union
Another stoppage on the Grand Union will the pounds between Kibworth Top Lock 18 and Kings Lock 38 on the Leicester Section.
The trust telling it has continued to monitor the water levels, but despite its best efforts, the decision has been made to close this section from Tuesday 28th July with it locked from 3pm on Monday 27th July.
Restricted opening times will remain in place until then.
South Stratford Canal
A long section of the South Stafford Canal will be closed from Lock 22 to Lock 55.
This will be closed from Monday 3rd August 2026 until further notice.
Montgomery Canal
The water levels have returned to operational levels at Welshpool and is now open for use.
But Belan and Pool Quay Locks will remain locked and sealed to maintain the filling of pounds until further notice.
Kennet & Avon Canal
The pound between Bradford On Avon Lock 14 and Semington Lock 15 are closed to navigation.
This is as Bradford on Avon Lock is currently closed due to low water levels.
