THERE are concerns about the condition of Marlow Bridge over the Thames in the town, with a water-borne inspection being undertaken to examine its structure.
A heavy goods vehicle driver attempted to take his vehicle over the bridge, weighing over ten times the permitted weight allowed, and damaged the structure, Alan Tilbury tells us.
Navigation still open
This caused the bridge to be closed to all traffic, though navigation is still open. Primary tests have showed seven 'areas of concern' which will require further inspection, requiring several layers of paint having to be scraped off the steelwork to be able to examine the damage caused by the vehicle.
It could be that parts of the structure will have to be replaced to repair the bridge, that may need the navigation to be closed. But nothing will be known until a full investigation is made.
