THIS really is getting ridiculous—Monday morning and already four waterway closures this week—the system really is falling apart.
In addition to the Anderton Boat Lift stoppage, that luckily was repaired and the now expected further stoppage on the Kennet & Avon Canal comes news that the important Stainforth & Keadby Canal that links the main system to the Yorkshire canals via the Trent is closed owing to a collar on Thorne Lock giving up the ghost.
Leeds & Liverpool closed again
In addition the Leeds & Liverpool Canal is closed again, this time at Dowley Gap Top Lock (21) but no actual reason is given other than 'repair' and that it will be closed until further notice.
The lack of maintenance is really 'coming home to roost'.
