THOUGH Anderton Boat Lift linking the Trent & Mersey Canal with the Weaver was out of order again yesterday (Sunday) it has been quickly repaired.

This was the third time the lift has been out of action since the 4th May this year, it last being broken on the 14th July, and it was out of action again.

Technical fault

This time a new reason for its failure is given, Keith Gudgin tells us, 'due to a technical fault with the operational software'. But this time it was quickly attended to, with the lift open today.

When it was first re-opened the contractor told narrowboatworld, as it failed whilst carrying the Press  on its first day, that it would not work marrying the old Victorian mechanical methods with the required modern safety devices, and so it seems it has proved, time and time again.

The picture was taken on that re-opening day in 2002.
