BOATERS using the Shropshire Union Canal may pleased to learn that there will be better facilities at Tyrley.

Canal & River Trust have decided that the arrangements for the sanitary station at Tyrley need to be upgraded, Richard Hall tells us.

Five times larger

A cesspit is in the process of being installed some five times larger than the existing septic tank to cope with the waste from the service station.

The contractors are digging a huge hole by the side of the top lock to accommodate it, with Richard's picture shows the start of the work.

Difficult access

Being a cesspit instead of a septic tank, it means it will have to be periodically emptied, but the access for a huge tanker needed to empty it when full will be difficult.

There is water now at Tyrley since the purification plant was renewed, but no mains drainage anywhere near.
