"Shoot the seal!"

ANGLERS on the Severn around Worcester were so alarmed at the number of fish 'Keith the Seal' was devouring that they wanted to shoot it to protect their stocks.

Though given a male name, the seal is female, and is often seen in the Severn, and when it was learned that the anglers wanted it shot, such was the outcry that they were forced to back down.

Withdraw

The Angling Trust in Worcester tried to obtain a licence to shoot the seal, but public pressure forced them to withdraw their application.

But the anglers around Gloucester are not so worried that 'Keith' might be heading their way, and it seems they are more tolerant, as a spokesman told they had an extremely well stocked river, so one seal wouldn't cause any problems at all, so don't fear the arrival of Keith.
