Hydro plan could go ahead

THE plan to construct an hydro electricity plant at Abingdon Weir on the Thames could go ahead if more details are submitted.

The group behind the scheme have been told by Vale of White Horse planning officers that its application has insufficient detail, such as about the construction process, how much space the contractors would take up and access routes for machinery, Alan Tilbury reveals.

Go ahead

The group, Abingdon Hydro is now amending the plans to include the details that are required, and expect that permission will then be granted and construction work can go ahead in 2014.

The application is for two Archimedes' screws at the weir, for which a licence for the scheme was given by Natural England in May last year.
