THE Inland Waterways Association Milton Keynes Branch has adopted Fenny Stratford Lock on the Grand Union Canal at Milton Keynes.

This is in response to theĀ  call by Canal & River Trust for more volunteers, with 15 members of the branch agreeing to participate, Alan Tilbury reveals.

General cleanliness

The members have agreed to be responsible for the general cleanliness and control of the vegetation of the area from the Pump House to the Railway Bridge.

This would include painting the lock and swing bridge and looking after the flower arrangements around the area.

Contracted out

However, it will not include maintenance of the lock or its paddle gear, grass cutting or such as sanitary station operation as this is contracted out.

A working party has already undertaken some work around the lock.
