More resident boaters

IRELAND Waterways too is applying for planning permission for resident boats on its waterways in addition to Scottish Waterways, as recently published in narrowboatworld.

There is a rush for more official residential moorings, as it is seen to counteract the fall in moorings generally as people leave the waterways or take up continuous cruising, leaving marinas and online moorings with empty berths.

Trial of 12 berths

Waterways Ireland has applied for planning permission to construct residential moorings at Sallins on the Grand Canal, with a trial of 12 berths, Alan Tilbury reveals.

These will have all facilities including electrics and water on individual bollards, together with a pump-out service.  Car parking will also be available.

This follows plans to construct similar berths at the western end of the Grand Canal at Shannon Harbour.
