'Wardle' Maureen dies

Published: Wednesday, 21 March 2012

I am saddened to report that Maureen passed away at the weekend, having suffered from ill health for some time, writes Vic Moses.

Those of you who have been boating for some while, will be aware that Maureen was born into the world of the working boater, and lived in her later years at Wardle Lock cottage at the junction of the Trent & Mersey and the Middlewich branch of the Shropshire Union.

She was always willing to chat to passing boaters and helped many a novice boat crew through this tricky lock. Her knowledge of the canals and the life of the working boatmen was extensive, and she is a great loss to the community.
