Fisherman dies at Cromwell Lock

A FISHERMAN has died and another is in hospital after their boat overturned at Cromwell Lock on the Trent.

The two men were attempting to fish in the tidal section of the river just below the powerful weir, it what can only be described as a 'skimpy' boat, Alan Tilbury reports.

Little chance

The small craft had little chance in the  power of the current as the fishermen approached the weir, with the force of the water overturning it, throwing the two men into the water.

A specialist rescue team rushed to the river and dragged the men from the water, but one died and the other was taken to hospital suffering from hypothermia, but is now in a stable condition.

It was at Cromwell Lock where the military lost a boating crew on manœuvres on the river, which is exceptionally dangerous around the weir.
