Hope for money from hydro power

THERE is the hope of money from a  proposed hydro-electric scheme to help the restoration of Herefordshire & Gloucestershire Canal.

The canal connects the Severn at Gloucester to Hereford, and it is hoped that a proposed hydro-electric installation on the river will not only bring back the old Llanthony Lock into use, but provide cash for the restoration of the 34 miles long waterway.

Finance to be sought

The scheme will also provide flood relief to the area, but the main finance has still to be sought.

The Herefordshire & Gloucestershire Canal, that was one of the last to be constructed, has 17 locks on its 34 miles length, two tunnels, with one at 2191 yards, amongst the longest on the system, together with an aqueduct.
