Hydro power could help restoration

Published: Monday, 03 October 2011

THERE is the chance that the construction of a £100,000 hydroelectric turbine at Dudbridge Locks on the Stroudwater Canal could help its restoration.

The Cotswold Canals Trust is currently in second place out of more than 900 schemes that put forward a scheme as part of the  British Gas energy-share initiative, Alan Tilbury reveals.

Income stream

If successful, the plant would provide an income stream towards the restoration by supplying energy into the national grid. The success will depend on the number of people who log onto the energyshare website to register their support.

At present a project in Hexham is leading by around 40 votes.
