Regents Canal blocked

THE glorious weather over the weekend had brought out the boats for an unexpected pleasant day's cruising, but not alas those wanting to cruise the Regent's Canal.

For Saxon a 40ft narrowboat from St Pancras Cruising Club was caught on a lock cill of Kentish Town Locks on the Regents Canal at Camden Town, Del Brenner tells us.

Completely blocked

This happened on Saturday night, with the result that the canal was completely blocked all yesterday, a busy sunny Sunday, as British Waterways had no means of dealing with the incident.

As one of the bottom paddles is still up, as can be seen in Del's photograph, it looks like no one took any emergency action as the boat went down.

Contractors Wood, Hall and Heward cannot be at the scene until today, Monday midday, when it is hoped that the boat will be re-floated.
