The Book Boat

WE HAVE plenty of narrowboats selling various items, with the Cheese Boat and the Fudge Boat being the two most well know, but a little known one is the Book Boat.

At the moment the converted 60ft narrowboat  is cruising the Kennet & Avon Canal near Bath, offering new and second-hand books and even doing a little barter with book in exchange for food!

The idea behind the scheme is to promote independent book selling, with titles not normally found in the chain stores.

Sarah Henshaw points out that the last few years have seen a huge decline in the number of non-chain retailers in the wake of massive discounting trends by supermarkets and online stores, so is helping to promote independents.

Later this month it will be moored in Bath.
