Mystery of man in canal

MYSTERY surrounds the man who was found unconscious in the Leeds & Liverpool Canal at Kirkstall.

Police enquiries resulted in it being ascertained the man had been cycling along the towpath, but his cycle was nowhere to be seen, Alan Tilbury reveals.

'Open mind'

And though a police spokesman states that they are keeping an 'open mind', it looks as though he was attacked for his bike, with the police asking any witnesses to come forward.

Police divers were unable to find his cycle, a brown Apollo Vortice mountain bike, in the waterway, which leaves them to believe it was in fact an attack.

He was taken by air ambulance to Leeds General Infirmary, but is still in a critical condition, and unable to be questioned.
