Recruiting more volunteers
THERE has been great interest in the work of the Wilts & Berks Canal Trust since clearing more of the disused waterway.
It was the third of a mile of overgrown original line of the canal that was cleared, making way for its eventual restoration that has caused the interest, with more people volunteering to help get the waterway completely restored, Janet Friend reports.
Carry on
The overgrown section was by Nash Hill at Lacock and more helpers will allow the trust to carry on clearing the line of a further overgrown section.
Once this is is completed, the cleared section will be connected to the Pewsham stretch where a wharf has already been cleared, with a dry dock and carpenters' workshop being constructed.
The ultimate aim of course is to restore the waterway linking the Thames at Abingdon with the Kennet & Avon at Semington.
