SO ONCE again, the short sighted management at CaRT have removed more boater facilities without providing a viable alternative, writes John Coxon.

Removing the easily car accessed rubbish facility at Sutton Cheney without providing a more secure alternative for boaters must rate as another stupid decisions to come from CaRT.

Short sighted

The Sutton Cheney compound was an eyesore some years ago and replacement by a skip was short sighted to say the least. At least a closed skip with a CaRT lock on it would have helped.

Why did CaRT not repair the compound and lock the large double gates with a lock that only the dustbin men have a key to and put a CaRT lock on the man gate for boaters to access?

Okay, it might not stop all the locals fly-tipping but it will significantly reduce it? If any of our rubbish facilities are accessible by the public by car then they should be locked up? Oops, sorry, I forgot, common sense is not something that CaRT does is it?

Will quickly overflow

If it sends lots of boaters to Hawkesbury Junction to dump their rubbish then it will very quickly overflow as they have closed the compound and reduced the amount and size of bins there some while ago.

These decisions will only result in increased fly tipping on the canals, and it is financial as well. Less or smaller bins means less to pay contractors to take away?

In my experience, it's mainly garden rubbish that gets fly tipped from cars as the local councils will no longer generally accept it! CaRT should be charging the councils to dispose of it.

They had this problem some yeas ago on the Weaver at Northwich. They solved it by closing the compound and providing a pan moored next to their yard that could only be accessed by boat! A lesson to be learnt here perhaps?
