OVER THE WEEKEND there has been three stoppages caused by repairs being required as Keith Gudgin reports.

Aire & Calder Navigation Main Line

The Aire & Calder has a further stoppage with Lemonroyd Lock 7.

With the hydraulic power pack having stopped working, preventing the lock being operated.

A team is being sent today, Monday. [Our boat in the picture shows the massive size of the lock!]

Grand Union Canal

There was a stoppage, also over the weekend, on the Grand Union Canal that is between Springwell Lock 83 and the sewer pipe bridge 176c.

But all we are told is that the stoppage is caused by a 'boating incident', with no details being given—only that it will be reviewed.

Lee Navigation

Though the heading tells 'Navigation Closure Completed' concerning Lock 14 on the Lee Navigation, this is later contradicted.

It telling that the lock has a faulty paddle making it inoperable, the reason being maintenance.

Trent & Mersey Canal

The fourth failure this weekend was not maintenance related but lack of water in the Trent & Mersey Canal.

This was the long pound from Sandon Lock 25 to Weston Lock 26 that due to low water levels, the trust has to temporarily close the navigation, effective immediately.

It advising that navigating during these low-water conditions poses significant risks to boats grounding, propeller damage, and potential structural issues within the channels and locks.

The operations teams are working to manage water levels. But are unable to provide an exact reopening time, but teams are evaluating the situation continuously.
