Standedge Tunnel still closed

STANDEDGE Tunnel that was closed on Monday has still not been reopened.

It was told that that communication system had failed, so no boats could be allowed through the tunnel, Keith Gudgin reported.

New 18 years ago

Though engineers are working to resolve the issue it seems it is the old problem of sourcing parts to complete the repair, though this is difficult to understand as the communication system was new just 18 years ago when the tunnel was restored.

Without a reliable communication system passage through the long tunnel is considered unsafe, though boats can be monitored from the adjoining disused railway tunnel.
