FOLLOWING the successful tenth anniversary flotilla celebrations on the Lowland canals over the past three years, various groups are canvassing interest in a waterborne journey to the Edinburgh Festival this August.
Hoping for 50 boats
It is hoped that around 50 boats will cruise to Linlithgow Basin on Friday 23rd August for an evening of entertainment before leaving for Edinburgh on the morning of Saturday 24th August.
The flotilla will then arrive at Edinburgh Quay on Saturday afternoon enjoying a further night of entertainment before returning home on Sunday.
Fabulous years
Ronnie Rusack MBE, Chair of Seagull Trust Cruises and Member of the Lowland Canals Volunteer Group, explains:
"We have had a fabulous few years showcasing the revitalised Forth & Clyde and Union canals and of course celebrating the tenth anniversary of the Falkirk Wheel, so we are keen to use these events as a springboard to establish a regular flotilla event.
"These events have proven to be a great way of promoting the value and attractions of the canals to towpath visitors as well as a tremendous way of bringing boaters together, reigniting old friendships and creating new ones."
