VEGETATION HAS BEEN CLEARED for the further restoration of the Montgomery Canal.
The Shropshire Union Canal Society’s members worked on clearing, Janet Friend reports.
Further restoration
The work party gave its attention to the Waen Wen section of the Montgomery Canal, with volunteers removing vegetation and tree stumps in preparation for further restoration of the waterway.
The volunteers were joined by corporate volunteers from Agilent and CGI, who helped with the clearance work.
In just over a day's work the team cleared 430 metres of canal channel, this also including the Waen Wen Basin.
Extra work
Extra work included lining and blocking a section of the channel and removing temporary fencing from the decommissioned Phase 1B haul road.
Part of the work was on the towpath wash wall at Schoolhouse Bridge, (pictured after restoration) completing the shuttering, in preparation for a the concrete.
