IT WAS JUST A YEAR since Oxford County Council undertook essential repair work to the eroding Thames river bank.

This was to safeguard this towpath for many years, Janet Friend reports.

But alas, it only lasted a year! With the work between Folly Bridge and Donnington Bridge falling into the river.

And of course the towpath is once more closed.

A Thames Path National Trail spokesperson told that diversions will be in place until late October 2026, with fences placed around the towpath and a diversion.

Another section of the Thames towpath was closed in Oxford this summer, and a further closure will be coming into force when a new bridge is erected.
