THE South Oxford Canal is closed today until the end of next week at Shipton-on-Cherwell, for emergency lock repairs.
The waterway will now be closed until Friday 24th March, the reason given being that a gate on Shipton Lock has become too difficult to operate, Keith Gudgin tells us.
'As soon as possible'
Repairs have not yet started, but will be 'as soon as possible', it understood that a broken cill has caused the problem.
The waterway was closed at 9am this morning.
