THERE is one thing that has been something of an event that visitors will be missing at the annual Braunston Historic Narrowboat Rally this year—boats getting stuck because of the lack of dredging.

The owners of the marina have taken it on themselves to pay-out and arrange the dredging of the waterway by the marina that has seen many of the deep draughted historic narrowboats stuck in the silt.

No dredging

As with many other sections of the waterways, there has been no dredging at Braunston for many years, resulting in many boats getting into difficulties with the build-up of silt, especially between the two bridges, so this is the area that is been dredged.

The work has been carried out in conjunction with Canal & River Trust, with Braunston Marina giving £6,000 towards the cost.

The Braunston Historic Narrowboat Rally will be held this year on the week-end of the 24th and 25th of June.
