ONCE again the 'Rochdale Nine' has had a Spring Clean, with the waterway drained to clear it of its rubbish, with it showing the results of drunken brawls at the adjoining clubs.

It is obvious from the number of chairs in the canal that the brawlers prefer a chair as their favourite—and handy—weapon, as Henry Plattins photograph shows.

Volunteers

Canal & River Trust used its volunteers to get dirty in removing the various obstacles from the canal bed, but this time not the usual multitude of shopping trolleys but mostly chairs instead, with of course the handy traffic cones also slung in.

Perhaps the ladies preferred handbags, as one had also been found amongst the chairs!

A spokesman for Manchester City Council thought is disgusting that so much had been thrown into the canal, making it necessary for volunteers to wade through mud to clear it out, and that the selfish people should be ashamed of themselves.
