THE Lancaster Canal has re-opened at Hest Bank Bridge (6) but is now closed at Glasson Basin Lock.
Six fairly large coping stones have been removed from the bed of the canal where they were knocked into the waterway by a vehicle striking the bridge, with the navigation now open, Keith Gudgin tells us.
Stored
The stones have been stored, and will be reinstated on the bridge at a later date.
However there is no navigation from Glasson Basin through the sea lock as an eye bolt has snapped on the tailgate, making the lock inoperable.
Divers will have to be employed to fix the breakage.
LATEST:
The bolt has now been replaced and the lock open again.
