I KNOW that your article concerning the sunken boat in the Regents Canal did not mention it, but the owners are artists and that great chunk of wood in it was being carved, writes John Rhodes.
I have passed the boat many times, and on one occurrence I mentioned to the man on the boat that if it fell over it would take the boat with it, and from its position shown in your picture I would not be surprised if that is what has happened.
Keeled the boat over
Not knowing what work had been done inside or what the weight distribution was, if it was preponderantly on the same side, even a simple leak allowing water in and settling on that side would have keeled the boat over.
Water would them have rushed over the side, and down it went. Luckily in one respect was that the boat was moored and so in shallow water, otherwise it would have been in a much worse condition.
I realise that the last thing these people need is advice, but slinging that great chunk of wood away would I feel improve matters.
