A MAN let go of the wheelchair in which his wife was sitting, and not having been first braked, it rolled and landed in the Llangollen Canal near the town.

Derrick Martin tells that he let go of the wheelchair to untangle the lead that was holding his Highland Terrier, letting go of the handles with the wheelchair facing the waterway, that immediately rolled into the water, Keith Gudgin relates.

Shallow

Luckily the water at the edge was shallow so the wheelchair and its passenger did not sink very far, but he was unable to pull her out, and it was a passing family that dragged the wheelchair and the woman out, with two boys even jumping into the water to help.

An ambulance was called with the paramedics checking the woman and taking her to hospital to be checked over.
