RETURNING this week from five weeks cruising, I wonder where your contributor was cruising. I can honestly say that we had very little problem finding moorings along the Staffs & Worcs, Coventry, Oxford and Thames, writes Martin Howes.
Sometimes we were early, but others we were early evening, but always managed to find somewhere, even at 6pm at Abingdon on a sunny Sunday and Banbury at 5.30pm on a Wednesday, (hire boat mid point), and Cropredy late afternoon. Cropredy on the return was full of Festival goers, much to the annoyance of a hotel pair who had obviously not done their homework.
20 to 30ft apart
It is annoying to see boats moored 20 to 30ft apart, and some continuous cruisers seem to want to claim a garden. Hire boaters do it through ignorance and do not realise they can share a ring or bollard.
I think CaRT's enforcement team have worked well to keep the scruffy campers away from honeypots, but then again we were not on the Kennet & Avon.
