A WALK along the Monmouthshire and Brecon Canal (Mon & Brec) is being organised by St David's Hospice Care to raise funds for the charity.

To accommodate both dedicated walkers and those preferring an easy stroll, it will be split into sections of different lengths, Alan Tilbury tells us.

Towpath

For the dedicated walker there is a 17 miles walk, with 8.5 miles and five miles for the not so dedicated, along the canal towpath.

This all takes place on Sunday 9th October with Organiser Franca Nigra, of St David's Hospice Care, explaining:

Clydach Gorge

"The walk follows the Mon & Brec from the Coach & Horses pub in Llangynidr to Goytre Wharf. The route takes you along some beautiful and tranquil stretches of the canal, as well as over the Clydach Gorge on the 90ft high embankment where construction of the canal was first started in 1797. It's an ideal opportunity to walk in memory of a loved one, and to raise funds for our work in the community."

The Mon & Brec Trek is being sponsored by £1,200 by ABC Leisure Group Ltd, of Red Line Boats which operates hire boats from its base at Goytre Wharf.
