IT WAS not employees from Canal & River Trust's law firm, Shoosmith's cleaning up the canals, but those from Burges Salmon who descended on Cain Hill Flight to spend a day cleaning.

Over 40 volunteers from Burges Salmon arrived at the flight on the Kennet & Avon Canal in Devizes recently to work on the locks and surrounding area, Alan Tilbury tells us.

Grateful

Steve Manzi, Volunteer Development Co-ordinator at the Trust, explained:

"We're really grateful to have the help of the volunteers from Burges Salmon to get Caen Hill looking great for the summer. In one day they managed to make a huge difference, and hopefully enjoyed being out by the canal as well."

The volunteers painted lock beams, resurfaced a path and of course did something for wildlife by building 'bug hotels'.

Is the Trust grateful enough to pass on its legal work to the firm?  And perhaps take a less confrontational approach to boaters' problems...?
