A YOUTH refused to clean up his vomit in the back of a taxi in Walsall, instead smashing its windows and a mirror and escaping by jumping in the Walsall Canal.

When Charlie Jones (19) was asked by the taxi driver to clean up his vomit, he refused and instead assaulted the driver and smashed his taxi windows with a hammer, Keith Gudgin tells us.

Grabbed his leg

But the police were called with a police dog leading the officers to the teenager who was hiding on the canal towpath and then jumped into the canal and waded across to escape, but the police dog, Ivan, was on his scent and  found him, grabbing his leg until the officers arrived.

But Jones still tried to escape hitting the dog, but Ivan was made of sterner stuff and held on even though he was hurt from blows on his nose and ribs, until the officers caught up and arrested the youth.

Sentenced

A court sentenced him to 18 months for assault, and hitting Ivan wasn't a good idea, as this gave him an extra nine months.

At the hearing it was told that Jones had drunk about seven pints of cider before vomiting in the taxi.
