THERE is a mystery on how the machine, known as a cherry picker, ended up in the Dudley No. 2 Canal. (Contractor's plant in canal).

It was discovered in the waterway by Highbridge Bridge at Netherton last week-end Alan tilbury tells us. (Picture by Jeff Hawkins.)

Vandals

It was thought that vandals had stolen the machine and driven it along the towpath to dump it in the water, and this has now been verified with the help of a video showing lads riding the machine along the towpath on Sunday evening.

Canal & River Trust explain that it may take some while before it is removed as it would need specialised equipment and the height of the bridge would prevent the use of a crane.
