IT SEEMS impossible to believe but now the Canal & River Trust wants volunteer boaters to do their engineering work for them by inspecting the Upper Trent and Nottingham Canal in their own boats!
An invitation has been published by the Canal & River Trust Engineering Team for a volunteer with his/her own boat to inspect the Nottingham Canal and Upper Trent for them, covering the entire waterway from Meadow Lane Lock to Cavendish Bridge, with the volunteer(s) wanted from the 18th to 20th May.
Experience or training
What—if any—experience or training is needed is not stated, just that the volunteer(s) will be paid expenses including diesel for the boat, but are simply told:
'The inspection involves cruising the navigation and stopping at any Trust owned assets to inspect them, so the going will be relatively slow. It will also give an insight into the work of our engineers'.
Whatever next will volunteers be doing?
