THE inquest concerning the death of Lewis Mullan who was discovered in Diglis Basin on the Worcester & Birmingham, Canal returned an open verdict.

It was told how after celebrating his birthday, in Worcester on Christmas Eve last year, the 23 years old took a taxi at 3am but only part way home as he had not the money to pay the full fare, Alan Tilbury tells us.

No record

CCTV shows him leaving the taxi at the railway station, with the driver stating he was intoxicated, though in good spirits. There is no record of where he then went, but was discovered in Diglis Basin on the 27th of December.

The police are satisfied that there was nothing untoward about his death, and as his trousers were partially undone, it suggested he was relieving himself, and slipped into the water.

Pathology results found a reading of 138 milligrams of alcohol in Mr Mullan's blood as well as traces of cannabis, and recorded a cause of death as drowning, contributed by alcohol and cannabis use.
