More skippers wanted

HARD on the heels of the request from the Kennet & Avon Canal Trust wanting skippers and crews for its Hungerford based trip boat, comes the Wilts & Berks Canal Trust also after volunteers.

This is to crew its Swindon-based trip boat Dragonfly, that is used to carry visitors along the Trust's restored section of the canal since being officially named by the Duchess of Cornwall in 2010, Alan Tilbury tells us.

At the moment however Dragonfly is at Melksham on the Avon where she is taking part in a river festival and marking the centenary of the parliamentary Act of Abandonment which closed & Wilts and Berks, which the trust is dedicated to restoring.

The Melksham River Festival will be held over the weekend of the 6th and 7th of September, although Dragonfly will be taking passengers on trips between Friday, 29th August and Monday 8th September.
