Narrowboat burglar jailed

THE man who left a trail of narrowboat thefts behind him from boats on many waterways has been caught and sentenced to four and a a half years in prison.

Allan Campbell, 39, who 'specialised' in breaking into narrowboats, (Search for narrowboat thief) was wanted by police all over the country, for thefts from boats on the Kennet & Avon Canal to those on the Rochdale Canal, Alan Tilbury relates.

20 burglaries

After a summer of breaking into boats, he was finally caught after being involved in a fight in Lincoln, arrested and taken to Swindon Crown Court where he faced five counts of burglary and admitted to 15 more boat burglaries.

The man targeted narrowboats that he found easy to enter by breaking off the usual small padlock, then rifled the belongings, taking anything of value at the same time helping himself to drink and food.
