Fuel leaking into Ouse

THE result of the fire of the cabin cruiser on the Ouse in York is causing concerns about pollution, as the remains of the burnt-out boat are still there, with its fuel or oil contaminating the river.

However, though fuel or oil can be seen by its multi-colours in the river, the Environment Agency state that it poses no threat.

A spokesman for the agency maintains:

"Following the fire of a leisure boat on the Ouse in York, we are confident that the remains are not presently posing a risk of pollution to the river. Similarly, we do not expect that there should be any further problems when the wreckage is salvaged."

Divers

It has been stated that divers will be needed before the remains of the boat can be moved, with a specialist salvage team being required.

Boater John Farrow told us yesterday (Wednesday) that he could see the fuel in the water way below where the craft was moored.
