KILLER JOHN SWEENEY who killed two girl friends and dumped then in a canal was given a whole-life order.
He has died in prison, Janet Friend reports.
Never released
A whole-life order means he would never be released from prison.
Sweeney, 69 was serving a whole-life sentence after being convicted in 2011 of the murders of two of his former girl friends.
His girl friend Paula Fields, 31, was killed and parts of her body were found in six holdalls floating in Regent's Canal in Camden in February 2001. Her head, hands and feet were never recovered.
Melissa Halstead, 33, was killed in 1990. Her dismembered body was found in a canal in Rotterdam, but she was not identified for 18 years.
Sweeney died at HMP Whitemoor on 14th August.
Not his only crime
This was not his only crime has he was jailed for attempting to murder his former girlfriend Delia Balmer in a 1994 axe attack, but this time he failed in his attempt.
The Prisons and Probation Ombudsman is investigating his death.
