Marina wanted

THERE is little doubt that there are far too many marinas these days, with many far below their capacity, but a boater claims one should be constructed on the Cam in Cambridge.

There is a huge shortage of berths on the river in the city, with the council considering making it worse by clearing the mooring from one area of the river owing to the condition of the boats in various stages of repair, noise and pollution, Alan Tilbury tells us.

Luther Phillips does not agree with the suggestion being put forward by the council that wants to explore if mooring could be feasible instead on wider stretches of the river, but believes a marina should be constructed that would allow the council to clear many of the unsightly boats from the river.

There are many boaters waiting for a berth, and with the council concerned about the condition of some of the boats and their obstruction, Luther believes that a marina would be the answer and solve the problem of animosity between moorers and rowers.

At a meeting however it was decided to ban most of the mooring on Riverside but allow it away from the centre on limited stretches with construction of new pontoons.

It is understood there is a waiting list of 200.
