THE REPAIR TO ZOUCH LOCK 55 that connects the Soar with Zouch Cut on the Leicester Section has not been successful.
This means of course there is no navigation, Keith Gudgin reports.
Chamber is not equalising
We are told—The work recently carried out to plank and board the lock gates has not been successful, and the lock cannot currently be operated safely because the chamber is not equalising correctly. This creates excessive pressure on the gates and balance beams during operation, and as a result the lock remains chained off and closed to navigation.
A full lock dewatering operation is now required so that colleagues can carry out further investigations and identify the underlying cause of the problem.
Complex
Due to the lock's location and its proximity to the er Soar, the site set-up needed to undertake this work safely is particularly complex.
